O.C. company buys product search site for $3.5 million

Local.com, an Irvine local search website and network, has bought Krillion, a location-based product search website based in Mountain View, for $3.5 million.

Krillion aggregates and matches consumer product information from multiple retailer websites for more than 70,000 consumer products from more than 50,000 retail U.S. locations.

Retail sales that have been influenced by the web are expected to reach $1.2 trillion by the end of 2012, according to Forrester Research.

At the same time, Local.com says it is joining the flood of daily deals websites with the launch of Spreebird.

Spreebird collects deals from across the country and makes them available on one site. Consumers can browse and buy the deals that are most relevant to their specific interests. Local.com expects to launch Spreebird mobile apps for  iPhone and Android by September.

Spreebird is also sourcing daily deals directly from local merchants in Orange County, Denver and Philadelphia with 17 additional markets expected to added by the end of the year.
